What to Expect
A Day at Salmon School
Class is in session from morning coffee to last call. Here’s how the 2026 seminar ran, and what we’re building on for 2027.
Captains Who Catch
Three speakers and a fishing panel in 2026, sharing the setups, speeds, and spreads that put fish in the cooler.
Gear on Site
Tackle and equipment from area suppliers, with people who can answer your questions before the season starts.
Bucket Raffles
Bring a few extra dollars. The raffle tables are where a lot of the fundraising, and a lot of the fun, happens.
Coffee to Cash Bar
Coffee and pastries when the doors open, a food truck at lunch, and a cash bar in the room all day. Last year the food truck sold out by 2 p.m.
Speakers
The Faculty
The 2027 lineup is still being recruited, and we’ll post names here as they sign on. For a sense of the caliber, here’s who taught in 2026:
Eric West
Multiple top-three finisher at the Brew City Salmon Tournament
Jim Stepp
President, Salmon Unlimited of Illinois
Tom Pietila
Well-known chinook specialist
Know a captain who belongs at the front of the room? Tell us who you want to hear.
Why It Matters
Your Seat Funds the Club’s Work
The Spring Seminar is one of GLSF’s most important fundraisers. What comes in through tickets, raffles, and sponsors goes back into the club’s programs: kids’ fishing clinics, the scales and fish-donation freezers at the public cleaning stations, and our work for the Lake Michigan fishery.

Three Ways to Back the Seminar
Sponsor the Day
Put your business in front of a room full of people who spend all summer on the lake.
Bring Your Booth
Gear and tackle suppliers are a big part of the day. If you sell it, anglers here want to see it.
Donate a Raffle Prize
Rods, reels, charters, gift cards, a cooler of tackle. Every prize turns into dollars for the club.
